European Reaction project updated documents on their website. Previously they had reported on status of Coherent substrates. This time they reported on status of STMicro 200mm substrates. They are not meeting their high quality requirements especially for BPD. So with less than a year to ramp they must doing some negotiations for outsourcing.

The majority of the 24 pcs 200 mm diameter substrates delivered meet or exceed the quality requirements for the good quality grade. The only parameter which is outside upper specification limit is the BPD (for 5 out of the 24 substrates). For the high quality specification, it is 1 of the 4 ingots showing a resistivity outside the specification, 25-27 mohm-cm versus the specification upper limit of 25 mohm-cm. Regarding polytype and micropipe density the substrates are excellent. For dislocation the total value (EPD) is inside the specification with margin (upper specification limit 15000 cm-2) and same goes for the TSD which is are stable low value in all the substrates. The main deviation from the high quality specification is the BPD, which is specified with a upper limit of 300 cm-2. This value is the most aggressive reviewing all the targets for the substrate in the project and specification for 150 mm diameter substrates are as of today clearly higher. The BPD of the delivered substrates range from 650 to 2800 cm-2. All substrates has 100% 4H polytype and no or very small count of stacking faults, all inside the specification.
