Globe says Ballard pact steals some of Global's lustre

Global Thermoelectric Inc GLE
Shares issued 16,113,384 Apr 19 close $8.95
Tue 20 Apr 99 In the News
The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday, April 20, edition that Global
Thermoelectric retreated $1.75 to $8.95 yesterday on the Toronto Stock
Exchange. The Globe's Market Movers column reports that the Calgary-based
maker of power fuel cells once again got some attention, but not the kind
it particularly likes. Investors sold Global yesterday, only one business
day after the shares hit a record high. The company announced on Friday a
new deal to develop and sell fuel cells to auto-parts giant Delphi
Automotive Systems. But as luck would have it, competitor Ballard Power
Systems of Vancouver is also rolling out pacts. And General Motors and
Toyota Motor plan to work together on low-to-no emission vehicles. The end
result took some of the lustre off Global, says The Globe.
