Thomas may not know. What he's saying amounts to saying that Microsoft s/w engineers understand the Java language better than the s/w engineers @ Netscape. What he should be saying is that uSoft s/w engineers (I use the term loosely) know Windows better than Netscape s/w engineers.

Is it that Microsoft engineers know Windows better than anyone else? Is there some API or something in Windows that, for some reason, Netscape does not utilize properly?

He's lying when he says that their inside info of Windows has nothing to do with it. It most certainly does. Java has to hook into the OS in order to function. Since uSoft wrote the OS, they know it's innards. If they're not willing to expose it's innards (and from what I've heard about them, they'd better not), you've got to assume that any implementation of anything under Windows what/when ever is going to be more efficently done by uSoft.
