A shotgun is a great idea for home defense. My SIL frightened away some guys messing with their apartment door just be racking the slide so they could hear it. Then he looked out the window and saw them running away. After they moved to a house, he shot a pitbull that had broken into their fenced backyard and killed one of their dogs.
