I thought about that too, there will surely be an inquiry, but since the pilot will be seen in the public's mind as a hero I doubt there will be any public reprisals. The people who made the decision to land in China will not have much of a career left though.

If there were rules governing a situation like this and they did break those rules I think they should face the consequences.

I thought it was in very poor taste for Bush to be making jokes today during his press conference. This is too serious for that. It made me think he doesn't see this seriousness.
