Obama and the Pelosi/Reid Democrats have spent literally trillions to bail out financial institutions, but they can't bring themselves to spend a few million for low income parents trying to give their kids a decent education in D.C. Any doubts about congressional leaders' priorities on education were erased today with the elimination of the D.C. Opportunity scholarships program, which is currently helping low-in come children attend private schools in the nation's capital.

1,700 of the poorest children in D.C. are now forced to leave their private schools and transfer back to low-performing and often dangerous public schools. The same schools the Obama's didn't even bother touring when searching for a school for their children. While pork fills the new budget and spending money on manure odor research makes the grade, Congress has moved quickly to end an important $14 million program.

With a 100 billion dollar budget, the Department of Education can't find 14 million to support a worthwhile program, that empowers parents and kids to get a decent education.

Democrats appear to care more about making the very powerful NEA special interest lobbyists happy, than children in the nations capital. The District of Columbia has one of the most troubled public-school systems in the country. Despite spending more than $14,000 a year per student, barely half of them graduate high school.

This isn't *change* it's status quo of the highest order. Instead of embracing the change American education needs, Democrats and team Obama appear intent on continuing to support the failed status quo. That's horrible news for 1,700 kids in the District of Columbia. Kids like the ones in this video.
