Info on Aortic GAGS
*******************

(what you look for on the bottle is "chondroitin sulfate")

Supplement Forms / Alternate Names : Aortic GAGs, Chondroitin Polysulphate, Chondroitin Sulfate A, CSA, Mesoglycan, Mucopolysaccharide

In a recent study, one group of men with early hardening of the coronary (heart) arteries was given 200 mg daily of aortic GAGs, while the other group received no treatment.8 After 18 months, the layering of the vessel lining was 7.5 times greater in the untreated group than in the aortic GAG group, a significant difference. Additional preliminary evidence that aortic GAGs might help atherosclerosis comes from other studies in animals and people. However, in the absence of properly designed double-blind trials, the results can't be taken as truly reliable.

We don't know how aortic GAGs might help atherosclerosis. There is some evidence that they can reduce cholesterol levels and also "thin" the blood.

Vein Diseases

Several Italian studies suggest that aortic GAGs may be helpful in varicose veins, phlebitis, and hemorrhoids.12–15EC<:-}

*Description: Aortic glycosaminoglycan is a glandular product. Glands are the organs responsible for secretions. Glandulars are not technically glands, they are extracts retrieved from different organs. Beef is the best source of glandulars. The aorta is the main artery in the entire body, running directly from the heart. GAG provides structural support to the aorta. Glycosaminoglycans are present in each of the three layers making up the artery. The first (outermost) layer is called the adventita made mainly of connective tissue which includes GAG. This layer gives elasticity and support to the artery. The middle layer is called the media, which is gives support and elasticity as well; however, it is mainly comprised of smooth muscle cells intertwined with GAG. The innermost layer is the intima, which is the lining of the artery and is made from endothelial cells. In this layer, GAG's function is to protect the endothelial cells from being damaged as well as providing support for these cells.

Absorption/Storage :

Dosage/Toxicity: For therapeutic purposes it is recommended to take 1gram before each meal, not to exceed 3grams. Before taking product, you are advised to consult with a trained health care professional.

Deficiency:

Common Uses: Aortic glycosaminoglycans are used to lower LDL "bad" cholesterol, while raise HDL "good" cholesterol. Since GAG functions to give support to arteries, this accessory nutrient is beneficial for improving the integrity of arteries and veins. Due to this, atherosclerosis may be interfered with.

Precautions: Consult a physician if pregnant, symptoms of nausea, diarrhea, or dizziness last more than a week, or if new symptoms appear.

An important study by Dr. Harlan Krumholz revealed that persons with low cholesterol levels over the age of 70 died twice as often from heart attacks[3] as older persons with high cholesterol values. Most studies in old persons have shown that cholesterol is not a risk factor for coronary artery disease. Approximately 90 % of cardiovascular disease is seen in persons over 60 years of age. Almost all studies have shown that high cholesterol is not a risk factor for women.[4] This leaves cholesterol as a risk factor for less than 5 % of those persons dying of a heart attack.

Question: if Cholesterol isn't a big risk factor, what is?

Answer: Oxidized Cholesterol, Lipoprotein A, Homocysteine and Triglycerides.

Question: Ok, how do I reduce the levels of these things?

Answer: Only way is with inositol hexanicotinate, and anti-oxidants such as COQ10, pycnogenol, Vitamin C, vitamin E, Selenium and B complex vitamins. And Exercise. Inositol Hexanictoinate and exercise have the added effect of upping HDL which helps scour these elements. It is also true that by reducing total cholesterol to a safe median level, say 4.5 or 180 mgs/dl you also reduce oxidized cholesterol. the only safe way to reduce cholesterol is to use no flush niacin or inositol hexanicotinate. Other substance that do the same thing or may help in concert are policosanol, pantethine, and guggulipid.
