IBM, Sun search for JavaOS niche lantimes.com JavaOS for Business, a specific version of JavaOS designed for network computing environments, is one of several products in Sun's sprawling strategy for marketing an operating system based on Java. Sun, more so than IBM, sees JavaOS running on devices other than NCs. JavaOS for Consumers has been licensed to companies such as Paris-based Alcatel Business Systems to design information appliances such as Web phones. Other JavaOS products--including PersonalJava, an API for the JavaOS--will be designed to help hardware vendors build Web-enabled telecommunications products. ---
