>>PRINCETON, N.J., Feb. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Pharmacopeia, Inc. (Nasdaq: PCOP - news) today announced that John J. Baldwin, Ph.D., Pharmacopeia's Chief Science and Technology Officer, intends to retire from the Company effective March 31, 2002.
Dr. Baldwin, age 67, was the first employee of Pharmacopeia when it was founded in 1993. Over the past nine years, he has led the Company's research efforts in various senior level capacities. Dr. Baldwin will continue to serve as a consultant to Pharmacopeia after his retirement. As a reflection of his passion for science, Dr. Baldwin expects to continue his scientific work with a start-up company in a related field.
``We are saddened to lose such a talented and experienced scientist and leader,'' said Joseph A. Mollica, Ph.D., Chairman, President and CEO. ``Jack has been a major contributor to the scientific success that we've achieved over the past nine years and we appreciate the time and effort he has dedicated to Pharmacopeia. We fully understand his decision to modify his lifestyle, especially given the distance Jack travels each day to work. Fortunately for us, Jack has built an incredibly talented team of chemists, biologists, and scientific management, all of whom I am confident can carry out the same quality of work that we have enjoyed thus far.''<<
Woner if this presages any strategic moves. PCOP needs to articulate its strategy.
