If this kind of apocalypse scenario starts to perpetuate in people's mind, even if the problems do not really exist, it will nevertheless create a panic situation that will bring chaos to society.

Are you seriously saying that Buffet has bought gold or silver? Did he state the reason? Is it because of Y2K or it's because he believes in a crash of the stock market?
