Hi, Oral. Funny you should mention that. Six months ago I had a serious shoulder injury. The prognosis was that I had permanently lost the full use of my shoulder, especially overhead motion. One of the first things I thought of was, what if I were an electrician? Plumber? Carpenter? House builder?

I'm retired, but what if I was a young guy who worked with my hands in any capacity?

This must happen all the time in the trades. What DOES a carpenter do if he can't swing a hammer any longer? I don't think long term disability insurance would be much of an answer.

P.S. I am proving the doctors wrong and have regained 90% mobility through my own PT regimen. But my point is that there is a lot more security in earning a living with your brain.

Of course, my brain isn't what it used to be, either :-)
