We do know that it's warming up, LB. We can tell that from tree-ring and ice-core studies, and from historical references. Europe has been warming up since we came out of the "little ice age" that lasted from the 14th to the 17th century. What I don't know, and I don't know that anyone does know, is how much of this warming is caused by man-made emissions of greenhouse gasses. After all, Europe is not yet as warm today as it was in 1100 CE; and the medieval warm period was certainly not caused by industrial activity.
