When I was a kid I was witness to two slow revolutions in our nation's collective thinking. (oxymoron perhaps, but how else to say it?) Both involved civil rights. One was the ongoing struggle to make citizens of all colors equal in the eyes of the law and the community. The other was doing the same for women. I remember being twelve and pondering - What will be the next great entrenched bigotry to be exposed, something I do not see now but in a few decades will be head-slappingly obvious?
I have found one, I believe, and it involves sexuality in orientation and identity. Gays and lesbians are fighting to be recognized as people no better or worse than you and I. I wish them well.
