Police departments contend with the lowlife so it's understandable why they want the weapons that might be necessary to get the job done. They don't want them available over the counter...must have their reasons. Why does a private citizen need anything more than the vast array of rifles & hand guns that were never banned? I believe I know why...it's for the same reason that abortion rights advocates don't want any restrictions. Both groups claim any legislation would have a snowball effect & would signify just the 1st step towards making all weapons & all abortions illegal. I believe the sensible approach to both issues is to have SOME restrictions for the greater good of society in general.
