I recommend the excellent Interactive Guide to the Florida vote on the New York Time/Election 2000 web site. You have to register, but it's free.

It shows the percentage of rejected ballots, types of voting machine, and voting pattern by county.

I was horrified to notice that the percentage of rejected ballots (both over & under votes) graph had a category labeled "Over 12%". This means that some Florida counties throw away over 12% of their ballots and don't call it an irregularity.

Talk about "close enough for government work".

Think about it. What Florida has been saying since the election is, "The margin of victory is less than 1,000. We failed to count well over 150,000 ballots. But we're absolutely sure that we picked the right winner."
