Dan:

Thanks!

My guess is that what they are getting at is not nec. that SGI and STM are in to the exclusion of everyone else but instead that the MIPS and ARM processors respectively are in to the exclusion of x86 etc. (I think STM is high on ARM - but I'm not sure.)

SGI does not deal in these types of businesses (directly) does it? STM would be a more appropriate choice to win the contract. I think they do a lot of cable set top box designs and so have a leg up on LSI who instead does a lot of satellite set top box designs.

As mentioned a few weeks ago LSI will likely be mum on this. Frank I believe said a guy (at LSI said LSI has put a bid out for the contract. I did not ask LSI directly whether they did.

Any way if LSI gets the contract because they are a big MIPS licensee ( lsilogic.com ) and have built set top boxes and are a leader in this area then great. I am playing this assuming LSI will NOT win the contract (being Mr. conservative...).

(Looks like TCI has pushed out the decision to 4 weeks more than they originally hinted. So much for hoping that good news from them might buoy the stock in the next couple of weeks.)

Shane.
