Well, um, er...

To remove from power a despot who was responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of his own people and who would not hesitate to harm the United States if he gained the ability (think Nuk-u-lar here...).

To give democracy in the Middle East a toe hold (think, Syria out of Lebanon and Libya disavowing terrorism as a national policy since invasion of Iraq, by way of example).
