<< Isn't anyone else worried about the recent revelation that VIA's WinChip5 is Socket A with SSE @ 750 Mhz. This sound like a powerful combination that could hurt AMD in the low end. They'll have the benefits of Socket A, and the compatibility of SSE that Scumbria has been suggesting that AMD needs. If it were coming from the Cyrix guys, I wouldn't be worried, but the Centaur guys seemed like they had their act together a little more. >> If it uses socket A, I think that's a benefit in disguise as it should inspire via to get the socket A chipsets out there in quantity. I'm not sure how dangerous the chip is, it obviously depends on a lot on the performance and not just the mhz) However, I think AMD can force the low end above that if it had to. Also, it will take awhile for the chip to get any respect in the market place. It could potentially be a danger, but we won't really know until we see how good it is.
