MP3: INSIDE THE HORNET'S NEST
By Scott Greenberg

MP3 (MPPP, $29) released its monthly metrics, showing superior growth in
most categories.

The digitization of music continues to cause reverberations around the
world. Retailers, including Virgin Megastore, have threatened to close
their doors if record labels abandon the basic retailer and begin to sell
digital music over the web. In addition, several retailers have banded
together to sue Sony Music because the company includes URLs to its
websites on the CDs it sells. The retailers claim this practice is
anti-trust because it cuts them out of sales related to the Sony-specific
websites.

This potential threat to retailers of digital music is quite real.
Retailers will continue to be the mainstay of music distribution for
several more years, but the inroads MP3 is making will become more
forceful over time. In fact, the proposed merger of Time Warner (TWX) and
EMI Group (EMIPY) has caused great consternation in the music world
because of Time Warner's merger with America Online.

The reality of digital music over the web is becoming less murky as the
conversion of voice and data becomes more mainstream. We continue to
believe MP3 will emerge from the pack as a winner in this arena and
reiterate our recommendation of the purchase of its shares.

Side note:

I used to subscribe to BullMarket..and just for fun....I put together a hypothetical portfolio for theit picks as pf Dec 3 1998
Clearstation does not weight the picks but applies a $10K buy against all...

here is how I would have done...if I had put $200K into their picks as of that date and held them til today : a big bad gain of 42%!! Their big winners were CSCO AOL and Q

Needless to say... my gain thus far..just in my Roth has been : 11,711% (tax free thank you very much!_

so take what they say...with a tiny grain of salt...lol
