It's all in the evolution of the technology. CFLs are already far more of a good deal than incandescents. For the same amount of light, you get a bulb that costs far less per year to purchase as well as far more in energy savings. These new incandescents will get there eventually too. Don't know if they will be able to compete with CFLs, but we'll see.

The bottom line is that the government mandated bulb rules already has created CFLs that are far cheaper over the long run and far more energy efficient.
