steve, if Compaq has a very strong 4th quarter, do you think that they will use it for above-expectations earnings, or will they take a reserve against excess inventory?

I'm beginning to worry that the Street simply does not believe that Compaq is making money on the sub 1k machines (despite Compaq's statements to the contrary) and will continue to contract Compaq's multiple unless they see an upside earnings surprise.

Remember, Compaq did very well last year, too, but they were trading at a trailing P/E of 15 last spring. I remember because this is when Abelson called the stock "overvalued" in Barrons -g-
