Sun is a very efficient manufacturer but its business model is different from Dells

Hmmm well from an automation standpoint, Sun is way behind. They havent come up on even a simple ERP (Oracle ERP) yet - they've been attempting this for about 5 years, in the time they have tried to go live on ERP, Oracle has gone from a close #2 to Sap to a distant third behind peoplesoft, also Sun doesnt have any SCM software so I have to anticipate the same problems there that they have with the ERP implementations. I dont know whats wrong, but usually the problem is a lack of discrete business processes to handle the business - too many exceptions etc so so way to automate the process. Unless Sun can get I2 or somebody in there, they arent going to be able to manage their supply chain, I cant see how they could ever be as efficient as Dell without this automation. They may be efficient vs. other unix vendors though.

Disclaimer, I only know mfg software automation issues and there are lots of other things that account for efficiency within the mfg arena, this is true.
