The policy choice is a tough one, too. Control the border in any kind of effective fashion, and the social pressure cooker in Mexico starts heating up. And believe me, there are social pressures galore down there which illegal migration to the US relieves.

Is it too much to ask that we have enlightened policy?

What would you do if you live in a nice house and next door, the family is or becomes dysfunctional?

1. You could move.
2. You can build massive fences and separate yourself from your neighbor
3. You could engage the neighbor and help them to get their act together.

In this case, we can't move and we are not about to evict our neighbors. Fortunately, Mexico is rich in natural resources, and the country is physically beautiful. And, we know they have a population with a lot of people willing to work - even at very low wages.

So, what do you think the answer should be?
