My feeling is that if people understood the programs, accounting, and funding issues better, there would be a better chance of implementing change now that would make coping with these challenges easier in the future. Don't get me started on the topic of a government takeover because I think that may not be such a bad idea despite the obvious downsides and risks. I'm starting to think that democracy has been a failure. Most people just don't know it yet. I am so beyond angry at what I am seeing these days from both parties and some politically influential groups my politics are getting more extreme daily. I see no way to resolve this through more democracy. It seems as though the debates are no longer about relatively insignificant differences of opinion. I consider some of the issues of the day to be extremely significant and some of the people calling the shots intrinsically evil because of their motivations. They are jeopardizing my life and virtually guaranteeing a lower quality of life for me and my family than I would otherwise have because of their actions - even if I am overestimating some of the more serious risks. That makes me think of them as enemies and not just people I need to compromise with over minor stuff. The stakes are too high. The problem is I can't find an alternate country that is more attractive and I would never act on my current emotions.
