Chris,

TRIN-5, used by Jerry Favors to find ST bottom, ST top - does NOT work well in market turning points - i.e. when we are rallying from oversold situation in Naz, market will stay overbought for a week or two on the initial rally, while the TRIN-5 will tell you to sell the market and you will get burnt. Likewise, at market top when it starts to correct, it will get oversold pretty quick on the initial break, and TRIN-5 will tell you to buy the market, but if the market has more momemtum to go down in a corrective phrase, you got killed.

it works when market starts to trend or in a consolidation period. Not at the turning point. Anyone based TRIN-5 to sell the NDX will get killed this week for sure. It also work better with NYSE (i.e. DOW) than NAZ for obvious reasons.

A friend and I are doing some backtest on Jerry Favors TRIN-5 and STIX for 1997, if we ever get finish, may forward you the spreadsheet.
