Novell Presides Over Solution City Novell may be losing its marketing war with Microsoft, but the embattled company is beginning to show the stuff that has made it one of the longest running hits on the high tech stage. Its Solution City program, an interesting multi-vendor solutions initiative, is the second innovative reseller program to come out of its KAYAK effort in the last few weeks. Solution City is in essence a World Wide Web site that lists recommended application solution sets that are based on Novell's operating systems and applications. It includes co-marketing programs by Novell and its vendor partners. The solutions include equipment and applications from among Novell's Yes certified partners. The partner list includes a number of channel stalwarts and other companies representing key reseller technologies. Solution City will be tied to a lead generation program, which will include end user marketing through direct mail and seminars. It will also include participation from Novell's field resources and the field resources of its partners. The program is not a bundling of hardware and software, rather its a certification program that goes beyond the Yes program. The solutions are tested by Key Labs of Provo, Utah and the integration of those products certified in Solution City. Interested VARs can register for the program on the Solution City Web site, located at novell.com. Novell promises to enhance the Solution City program based on feedback and input from VARs and vendor partners. And oh yes, the other initiative spawned form the KAYAK program - IntranetWare for Small Business.
