John asks: >> why can't the site return selected time & date info to my converged TV/Internet Computer?

Frank also asks: Is this an area covered by gmst/tvgia patents?

My previous post addresses the issue that there is a LOT more to the features and benefits than getting data from one platform to the other. Because of that, John, I don't think your question focuses on a particularly important aspect because it leaves so much out. To more fully address your and Frank's questions I'll refer to the principal patents listed in the Stephens report:

"* The concept of storage and retrieval of programming data from a local device such as a TV or set-top-box;

* The layout of the program grid;

* Synchronization of the local clock at the consumer's premises with the network clock;

* "Point and tune" functionality;

* Delivering program information based upon user inputs

* Automatically tuning to a selected program that will be broadcast at a later time;

* Unattended recording of selected programs through use of a VCR; and

* Specific user interfaces for the IPG."

P. S. If Frank has become known around here by association with his RTFM acronym, I'm about to become known for RTFSR. I hope I don't have to let anyone know at this point what SR means! :) (Very big smile, folks!)
