Right on, Joe:

What you just said is validated in today's paper:

Content is an area where Microsoft's "technical capabilities"
have limited relevance...sorry fate of Slate and MSN...MSFT
execs claim to be unperturbed...but have packed their Red West
facility with artists, audio techs, editors, writers, film
producers that MSFT has lured away with valuable options...
some have already left after finding Microsoft's corporate
culture dreary and unfulfilling...All of Microsoft's money
and power may be helpless against the user's reluctance to
pay for content.

That pretty much sums up what the news writers are saying
but it's interesting to note the Intel-Compaq-Microsoft
HDTV deal last week and now the WebTV deal: since WebTV
doesn't need the Intel processor, the Compaq computer, and
Microsoft's Windows, it looks like some execs are worried
about their hegemony.

Microsoft plans to change WebTV's browser into a platform
that uses WindowsCE so that's pretty clear. We'll probably
be hearing that Intel will push its stuff for the set-top
box and Compaq will probably try to convince the buyer that
their version of the box is better.

Caveat Emptor!

I'm just waiting for the polka-dot smoke and that's coming
because DESPITE NT'S STRENGTHS THEY AREN'T NEARLY ENOUGH
TO REPLACE NOVELL.

(Apologies to Salah but that was the best thing I've seen in
a long, long time!)
