Chowder’s comment about goals is spot on as they are key to investing. My wife and I are in our mid sixties, retired, and have no debt outside of what we charge every month on our credit cards. Capital preservation is much more important to us than current income at this stage in our lives. I have the majority of our portfolio in relatively safe stocks (the top four of which are PEP, JNJ, GOOGL, and MSFT) and MMM fits in fine outside of the potential legal issues. So, lowering our exposure while maintaining a position makes sense in our case. As an aside, I added shares of AMZN and V today with some of the proceeds of the MMM shares that were trimmed.
