Asset-backeds-Spreads Firm, $3.4 Bln in New Supply

August 07, 2002 16:36:17 (ET)

NEW YORK, Aug 7 (Reuters) - New supply kicked up another notch in the U.S. asset-backed securities market on Wednesday, with more than $2.5 billion in securities sold, reflecting core demand for this type of debt despite fears over rising consumer defaults.

Unlike the general dearth of supply in recent weeks, plans for new asset-backed deals have been popping up daily. Another $3.4 billion in new issues emerged by various corporate borrowers on Wednesday. The largest issue of the new offering calendar was a $1.6 billion car loan securitization from AmeriCredit Corp. (ACF,Trade).
