Thanks Paul. About time the company started making this part known:

Therefore, the company can easily equip users with
whatever new or different code appears in the 56Kbps standard, he
said.

This software-upgradable safety net will distinguish U.S. Robotics'
products from competitors, Manire said. Lucent and Rockwell are
both working on their own 56Kbps implementations and intend to
make those implementations interoperable.

"No standard [reached] will require a hardware change in our
products," Manire said.
