Thanks for this explanation Jim! I would like to add (opinion) for all NOVL investors to consider:

This is a very good deal for us, even if we get zero revenue from this venture, although I do expect it will contribute some revenue in the future. The most substantial benefit comes from extending the Novell IntraNetware marketshare, over the next few years which ever company has the largest install base of servers will have the lowest sales & distribution costs ... have a 'performance' advantage for all new products and the ability to beat other competitors to market by at least several months for all substantial products ... I think that there will be plenty of benefit to both companies (NSCP & NOVL) from this deal ... most of the money will be made by selling additional products to the expanded install base.

The larger we make the IntraNetware Install base, the better for Novell. The more pervasive we can make Novell Directory Services (ie get other developers to include NDS in their products) the better for Novell.

Cutting the dependancy on MSFT OS for NSCP is probably crucial to their survival, if they didn't move to Netware they would most likely have to develop their own. We are much better off with them using Netware ... I don't want another 'credible' competitor to be trying to take marketshare away from Novell.
