They might have actually used the human sacrifice as a lubricant for those huge slabs.
I cannot find the reference in time, but there was a tiny tale on a neighboring thread about how many Norwegians it takes to grease a combine. "Only two ... if ya run'em through slow enough", opined Sven to Ole.
