Joe, <Based on your previous posts, I understand that you are young and you have worked at Intel for relatively short time. I don't think you are in a category of the veteran engineers that the poster was talking about.>
A lot of my coworkers are veteran engineers with spouses and children. Some of those veterans leave for various reasons. Perhaps a few of them left Intel on not-so-amicable terms. But I don't see how this is so vastly different from other companies.
My observation at Intel is that it all depends on the various departments. Some I've noticed have high turnover rates, and some have done a very good job retaining employees and expertise. I think my department in particular seems to do an adequate job retaining talent (with a few exceptions which I won't talk about here).
In the end, it all depends on good leadership and management. And Intel is so huge that you'll find both good and bad managers everywhere within the company. Of course, web sites like FACE Intel will only focus on the instances of bad management. And once again, because of Intel's size, FACE Intel will have a lot of "bad management" stories to publish. But from my point-of-view, I don't see any mass exodus of experienced engineers. I'm here to learn, not just to make a living, so if I did see veteran engineers leaving in droves, I'd leave as well.
I won't even start about the head of FACE Intel, Ken "Got an axe to grind with Intel?" Hamidi.
