When I was involved in the military, the only 50s we had were full auto machine guns, either on tripods, swivel mounted, or ring mounted. At that time, there was no single shot alternative unless you had a quick trigger finger.

The M2 50 cal was designed to be and is listed as a fully automatic weapon. Nevertheless it does have a single shot mode.

I had to make a call to get the correct part nomenclature for this.
To prepare the gun for single shots. you must first place the bolt latch in the up position. Then rotate the tube sleeve to the right.

The 50 can fire single shots from belted ammo and the belts can be inserted from the left or the right (with another adjustment).

There is a 50 model (or another heavy machine gun) that has a single shot trigger between and recessed behind the wings of the big butterfly (thumb) trigger.
