Policy toward iran should be like our policy toward USSR during the Cold War. Need to both engage and deter but also to have VOA and be a proponent of human rights.
Iran will either evolve imperfectly like china or breakdown like USSR which will hopefully lead to democracy. We cant determine now which way things will break or how long it will take. What we can do is have consistency in our FP and offset the Euro pure accomodation model (aka appeasement)which was often in place for soviets and chinese communists. Mike
