Micron reports wider-than-expected loss (MU) By Mike Tarsala
Micron Technology (MU) reported a wider-than-expected fiscal-third quarter loss Thursday as the memory-chip maker said sales dropped 55 percent. The company reported a loss of $301 million, or 50 cents a share, compared with 15 cents in the year-ago quarter. Results include a pre-tax inventory writedown of approximately $260 million. Analysts expected a loss of 15 cents, according to First Call/Thomson Financial. It was not immediately clear whether First Call's figure accounted for a writedown. Micron shares rose 87 cents, or 2.4 percent, to $37.71 in New York Stock Exchange trading ahead of the announcement.
