My response to backing-off is usually to simply cancel the order. I won't chase. Most of the time, it turns out I would be better-off simply deferring the order. (Waiting to open or close the position.) If I really want to get out of an option, I will wait a while, the quote will eventually go back to what it was, and then I will enter a market order. I think it would be just to blatent for the specialist to back-off on a market order.
