The classic place to find people who are in a bind and trying to stay afloat is sleeping in their cars. Nothing wrong with that. I have a friend who lived in a tent when his family first moved to California in the 40's.

The LA city planners, like all of them around the country back in the 60's, contributed to the problem by tearing down all the old downtown housing that the down and out could afford. With present downtown RE prices, building "affordable housing" is a joke.
