david...re: old guys like us... respect your opinion...the masses always on the wrong side of the trade...and in reality they shouldn't be trading...the best investment technique for "everyman" is buy quality and let it grow...you know as well as i of horror stories, margin calls, poor portfolio management...all caused by unsophisticated investors trying to be uptown....they think the returns will never end...they will, but not for long...longest bear market...less than two years?...look at the indices...never turned down and stayed there...as long as our economy expands so will the equity markets...so why try to time your portfolio...buy and hold...sell options against your holdings...not to time but for incremental income...i try to average 15-18% pa returns...i've had 3% years and 300% years...the volatility and sector rotation makes timing impossible in my mind...rarely will we see a whole market depressed....not like it use to be...it's better..good luck, ed a.
