Silicon Graphics and its subsidiary, MIPS, are creating some (or all?)
of the hardware for Nintendo's Ultra64 Game system, which will be released in
Japan near the end of April and in the US/rest-of-the-world shortly
thereafter. As I understand it, they (MIPS/SGI) created a special version of
one of the MIPS processors (R4600?) for use in the system. Keep in mind that
the entire game console is supposed to sell for only about $250.

What the Seattle Times reviewer said is that it will be the first
true 64-bit game machine on the market. He also said that the existing
32-bit platforms (3D0 and Atari?) don't come close in 3D realism.

Of course, everybody else is trying to get 64-bit machines to market, too,
and I'd expect others by next Christmas. The reviewer said that initially
only two games will be available, one that he thought was fantastic and
one that was so-so, with perhaps 7 titles to be available by Christmas.
