Here is some information on the DT-RIM datafeed/Internet overhead:

DT-RIM is essentially downloading ticks from the server and processing them,
so the datafeed overhead strictly depends on the number of ticks per second.
You can see the incoming ticks just above the current time display in the RIM Window and can directly determine the amount of data transferred (just multiply by 20 bytes).
Example:
You are watching 500 stocks and you started the watch as 10:00:00.
At 10:01:00 the tick counter went from "0 Ticks" to "1200 Ticks".
That means RIM received 20 ticks each second.
20 Ticks multiplied by 20 bytes = only 400 bytes per second overhead
Even a slow 28k connection can handle up to 3200bytes per second!

Even when you watch the ENTIRE NASDAQ market (2800 stocks) you
generate only around 80 ticks per second (or 1600 bytes per second)!

At 9:40 RIM will do its day open procedure to load the day high/low/open and equity data which takes only 2 minutes and downloads 300k.

After the market closes starting at 16:16 RIM will do its day close procedure to bring the database up-to-date which takes only 10 minutes and downloads 1MB.

Occasionally there might be temporary peaks exceeding the bandwidth, in which case the ticks will be slightly delayed.

There is an excellent product available which shows you each moment your internet traffic and activity:
