Well, seems like there's 2 possibilities - they paid the fees to the exchanges - or - they paid zero for the data they received.

In the first instance they would have had to have very deep pockets to cover charges far in excess of what they received @ 9.95 per subscriber per month. Then there are all the free (comeon) quotes given away during the 15 day trial period for which they received zip.

The question is why would anyone do that? Contrary to the old punch line they can't possibly make it up on volume. There's the rub - why shell out big bucks to bring in comparatively fewer dollars? A rational person would say it can't be done, so we're stuck with the "why?".

The other alternative is tougher - how could they get away with not paying for the data streams from the various exchanges? I don't think they have a 15 day free trial, much less a 250 day trial!! So how could they acquire the data for zilch?

My theory has been that they found a way to download it or otherwise tap into the databases but in a manner that leaves no fingerprints. That could account for the disparities in the volumes and the prices, because the "delay" factor is really nothing more than seconds or a minute at worst, compared to some other "live" or "real time" quote service.

But who would be so dumb as to do that? Not even these guys would hazard such a risk, even if they had the technical expertise to do so. Alternatively they may claim that once the data is sent up to a satellite it has been "broadcast" and therefore is in the public domain and they just snatch it out of the ether and redisseminate it in another form. They only charge a minimal fee to cover their costs, etc. etc. etc.

The "how" and the "why" are very important questions indeed, Uri. The more we spot contradictions and point them out the greater their silence - and that speaks volumes, IMHO. Of ocurse there are others (purported investors in the co.) who have the ability to wave off any such problems or simply ignore them in favor of attacking the person who brings the question to the forum.
