TideGlider, I was listening to the Phil Valentine show yesterday, and I fully agreed with his discussion that the Republicans lost out on the deal that was cut on the deficit. The Republicans entered into a deal which did not impact Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid and only cut a minimum in the deficit without raising revenue, but does allow a vote on the balanced budget amendment.

However, Obama which had proposed a $4 trillion package and had to settle for far less. Then, the S&P downgraded the US based on the conflict between the parties and the lack of obtaining a package within the $4 trillion range which would include cuts in spending and revenue increases, and the appointment of a special committee to come up with addition balance.

If the budget committee and Congress can not reach agreement then there would be an across the board equal cuts in the military and discretionary areas. However, Paneta stated that such cuts would be a disaster to the US military readiness. Consequently, the Republicans would be boxed in with either raising increased revenues or cutting the military which they do not want. The vote on a balance budget amendment will go down in defeat.

Even Phil Valentine expressed that it appears that the Republicans was again been had by OBama as in the Healthcare bill.

For those who have expressed that OBama and the Democrats lacks leadership ability, just look who has outsmarted again. However, in these types of conflicts no one truly wins-its is a lose - lose situation where the US has potentially lost by the S&P downgrade.

For those interested the following is the New Yorker article, on the Raid on getting Bin Laden.

I found the article very interesting.
