The difference between a conservative and a liberal is that a conservative believes in equality of opportunity, while a liberal believes in equality of outcomes.

Lots of wisdom in those words.

In a discussion with some locals yesterday, I asked how N Idaho went from a near 100% Demo to a near totally Republican voting block.

They said it was the demo run unions and environmentalists. Excessive overhead, mandatory do-nothing jobs, and ridiculous environmental controls put the local mine companies out of business and nearly killed the local logging industry.

20-25 years ago the local unemployment rate skyrocketed. The area became very depressed and everyone began looking at what happened and why. They figured it out and have opted for more freedoms and less regulation ever since.

One guy was railing how left wing politicians who never go hiking, hunting or fishing think they are experts on the environment and working cooperatively with mother nature. Then they pass stupid laws to the detriment of some needed and legitimate businesses. His words, "Some of those idiots think we want to kill all the Eagles, eat all the Salmon and Trout, shoot all the Deer and Elk, and cut down all the trees with never a thought to replenishment. They don't have a clue and we don't need them running our government."
