King Salman gives some prisoners royal pardon By Courtney Trenwith Sunday, 1 February 2015 11:59 AM Some Saudi prisoners are due to be released on Sunday after receiving a royal pardon from the newly instilled King Salman. The prisoners will include rights activists and expatriates, the Saudi Gazette said. Any payments they were due to make to victims’ would be paid from public funds. The number of people to be released and their details have not yet been made public. “We distributed general guidelines interpreting the amnesty on Saturday itself. Immediately, the Directorate General for Prisons and the prison administrations in the regions and governorates started working day and night to expedite completing the procedures to implement the generous gesture of King Salman, who is keen to reunite the inmates with their families,” Director General of Prisons Major General Ibrahim Al Hamzi was quoted as saying. King Salman, who took the crown after the death of King Abdullah on January 23, also has announced two-month salary bonuses for Saudis working in the public sector.
