Lots of problems with the Castro situation. First, who knows how much longer he can survive? He is in VERY POOR health, and I doubt he will last six months. Better to wait for Rioul don't you think, at least till June or so? Secondly, there is an issue with the Cuban Americans in Florida. How might they respond?
Well, that depends. If it means they can go as americans to cuba and come back to the US, and can send money to their relatives, as a first step towards the eventual normalization they might like it. the Men won't but their wives will change their minds. Do it now, while Fidel is still alive, then Raoul can react far more speedily to normalize relations. Raoul will be stuck if you wait til Fidel is dead. He cannot immediately start to disband Fidel's legacy, but if fidel starts, it cuts the ground out from under several American enemies, and gives Fidel what he wants, but it will be a short victory. Regardless of which way the Democrats land they will alienate someone. Then there is all that oil off the Cuban coast, presently going to China..... |
