Very colorful.... The electorate at once deplores taxes, and wants services. It does not want onerous regulatory burdens, but it wants clean air and water, and a reasonable assurance that it will not die of botulism or other food poisons. It is erroneous to think that the "state" just grew because that is its nature. It grew because Americans demanded more stuff, and it will stabilize at whatever point the electorate feels there to be a balance......
