Learning System Today

Tektronix' Video Communication Equipment Key to Bell Atlantic's
CityNet Project

BEAVERTON, Ore., Feb. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE: TEK -
news) today announced that Bell Atlantic has integrated Tektronix'
advanced broadband video communication system in its CityNet project.
The system will be demonstrated today by Vice President Al Gore at a
national conference in Washington D.C. on telecommunications
technologies, ''Connecting All Americans for the 21st Century --
Telecommunications Links in Low Income & Rural Communications.''

Tektronix equipment is being used in the CityNet project -- a high-
speed, fiber-optic network that provides community programs to low-
income urban and rural areas -- located in Buffalo, New York.
Developed by Buffalo State College with funding and technical support
from Bell Atlantic, the project uses a Bell Atlantic video and data
network to provide students and other individuals with increased
opportunities for employment and job training. More than 70
providers of economic development, education and social service
programs are linked via Buffalo's CityNet.

''Continuing to build the skills of our future workforce is an
economic imperative for the United States,'' said Tim Thorsteinson,
president, Video and Networking Division, Tektronix. ''We at Tektronix
are proud that we can use our technology to contribute to this
effort.''

Tektronix products used in the system include a J Series Codec system,
which compresses video and audio signals, combines them with other
data traffic, and transmits them over DS3 fiber optic transceivers; a
DS3 digital cross connect switch; an SC series site controller that
provides user interface for room control and impromptu connections to
remote sites; and ConferenceMaker software that schedules, controls
and manages video communication sessions.
