why you should care about zone blocks (click next if you don't care about optimizing health, physical and mental performance and/or don't want to avoid lethargy and unnecessary disease conditions):

Every athlete working with Marv goes on a diet called the Zone Diet. This is not to lose weight, but rather to change the way you eat. This diet will help you achieve maximum physical performance. While I have been on the diet and working with Marv, I know I have improved greatly because when I played pick up ball at the beach the first time I was here, compared to the days I play there now, I feel and other people have noticed a huge improvement in my athleticism, largely due to Marv's training.

Vivian Y. Sobarzo-Pena started Crossfit June 28, 2006 and weighed 205 lbs. at the time. One year later, she's 148 lbs of muscle. Vivian now has a 110 lb. overhead squat, kipping pull ups, rope climbs and box jumps, none of which she did when she was 57 lbs. heavier. She attributes her weight loss to not only Crossfit, but the ZONE diet as well. We are so proud of you, Viv. You are an inspiration to us all.

"I used to be hungry most of the time, and if I tried to deny myself food, it was total torture," she said. Not so with Barry Sears' Zone Diet, which disdains simple carbohydrates and is designed to avoid soaring insulin levels. "Spikes in insulin were making me hungry," she said.

To put this in perspective, 1:29 was the time that 2 of the 3 best Crossfit rowers got in the Crossfit Manchester Grand Opening day, the winner getting 1:27.5 Also, I decided to checkout the main Concept2 world wide rankings site, to see how this time compared: In the “Individual and Race Results | 500m | Men’s | Heavyweight | Ages 30-39 | Current 2008 Season” category, my placed me as 43rd out of 275! Which is top 15th percentile. Comparing to the whole of 2007, I was at the 17% mark.

Bare in mind that most of these guys are rowers, that’s what they do, and believe themselves good enough to put their times up online for the world to see. And here’s me, who couldn’t even be called a part time rower, and I come along and get a time that puts me in the top sixth! I’m astonished at what Crossfit (and zoning) has seen me achieve in just 6 months. I can’t wait for the next 6 months!

Until this day, I live in "The Zone"...I call it the Dr. Barry Sear's inspired "wellness zone". People ask me: "where do you get all your energy and passion?" I respond: "by balancing my macronutrients: protein, carbs and healthy fats...the most potent drug you can ever take...that's what Dr. Sears taught me."

amazing things happen when you turn food into a wellness drug and balance your hormonal response to enter the zone. the problem is that you can't extrapolate past hormonally unbalanced experience - the zone is qualitatively different than every hormonally unbalanced diet out there.
